A straightforward garden office. Or so it seemed.

Pauline and Rob needed a small garden office. The brief was simple. The plot was anything but. An established pond full of wildlife needed relocating. A collection of rare and beautiful plants, including a corkscrew willow, had to be carefully worked around and protected throughout. Materials storage and working space were severely restricted. And Luna the puppy needed to be kept safe throughout.

None of it gave Primrose pause. Taking responsibility for the whole project, including everything the plot throws at the build team, is what a turnkey service actually means. The office was delivered without the clients being asked to manage any of it themselves.

The whole job, not just the easy parts.

There are garden room companies that will build the room and leave everything else to the client. Primrose is not one of them. If something sits between the brief and the finished build, it becomes part of the project. That approach is what makes the difference between a service that looks good on paper and one that genuinely removes the stress of building in a real garden, with real complications, for real people.

And so it was that Pauline and Rob decided to appoint Primrose to build a small garden office. Easy enough? Well, sort of…there was an established pond teaming with of wildlife to relocate, there were a number of rare and beautiful plants (including the corkscrew willow tree you see in the photos) and very little space in which to store materials or set up a working area – oh and Luna the puppy to keep safe!

With a Primrose you get more than just a new garden room, you get thoughtful consideration of your needs and a willingness to embrace responsibility to deliver a turnkey, stress-free service.

If you’ve been struggling to find a garden room company that can meet your needs, or if you are finding that they are not interested in doing the whole job, why not get in touch today – Primrose Projects are different.

An oasis for Jenny and Rupert

The original idea was to build a contemporary cedar-clad garden room which could be used as a work-from-home space and gym. With a Primrose project its OK to change the plan half way through and theses photos illustrate this perfectly!

A retreat for Tim and Reene

Nestled amongst the established shrubbery, this garden retreat provides a quiet place to enjoy the evening sun... One of the challenges we often come across is where a garden is elevated at towards the rear - i.e. an uphill garden. In such cases there is a risk that, even a modestly sized garden room, will appear monolithic and overbearing. The topography of Tim and Reene's garden in West Hampstead meant that the garden room floor level would be one metre above the lawn level. Although not ideal, it is possible to create a garden room that is not awkward to get too or overbearing to look at.

Down on the farm

When considering exterior cladding options, its worth thinking about how your garden room will fit in with other elements in the garden. The use of IRO architectural cladding in this design allowed the new outbuilding to sit inconspicuously among several farm out building and the main house, which also has traditional back feather edge cladding.
